Update

So, as per usual, the blog languishes.  This time, it’s because, oddly enough, I’ve been doing something actually productive (ish.  very ish at the moment) and working on a new story.  I also happened to see (a week late) that Amazon had opened up the submisisons period for its breakthrough novel award.  My novel (Hey!  I wrote a novel!  you can sample it right over there —–>) has been languishing for some months, but I says to myself I says, “I should enter this thing.”  I shoulda last year, except that, as soon as I started looking over it prior to entering, to make sure it was just right, I realized there was plenty left to be done.  Well, went to put the finishing touches on my lightning-draft (#6 now) this morning, and review the submissions guidelines, when I see they’ve reached the limit and closed the contest.  In fact, it happened Wednesday.

Goddammit.

On the other hand, it turns out this thing wasn’t as ready, like I’d thought.  I’m pretty much completely sick fo the goddamned thing, but I still think it’s worth humping around a bit more.  My work situation being now settled for a few months, my taxes filed and my debt under control, it seems possible to think about it again.  So the submissions continue.  For the time being, you can read the new, improved version, right over there —–> (tip: there’s a new bit at the beginning of the third chapter that I think’s funny, but might not be there forever. )

And now I’m actually looking forward to launching a new project.  The one I’ve been working on in fits and starts for the last ten months or so, it’s going back on ice.  Just not feeling it.  So it goes. Upshot is, it’s exciting times.  New story done, new book starting Monday.  Should be only, oh, three to nine years, and I’ll have a new book to annoy my friends by talking about.
